Rushden & Diamonds keeper commits suicide after fiancée’s affair with John Terry’s brother
Goalkeeper Dale Roberts took his own life after his fiancée had an affair with John Terry’s brother Paul. The Sun reports that the 24-year-old was found dead when his fiancée Lindsey Cowan, aged 25, returned to the flat they shared and found the door had been locked from the inside.
She raised the alarm and the Rushden & Diamonds player was found hanged inside the flat.
Roberts had made the headlines in May when it emerged that Lindsey had been cheating on him with then team-mate Paul Terry. The story received extra media attention as it followed soon after news of John Terry’s own affair.
The couple split-up, but got back together at the end of summer. Roberts was reportedly distraught at being made to be “another Wayne Bridge” and was on anti-depressants.
Manchester City and England star Adam Johnson was a school-friend of Roberts. He said: “I’m devastated. He was a good friend.
“I’m going to play in honour of Dale and dedicate my performance and, hopefully, a victory to his memory.”
