Colombia coach Hernan Dario Gomez resigns for (allegedly) hitting date who criticised tactics
International coach has a domestic
Colombia manager Hernan Dario Gomez (aka Bolillo) has quit his post after allegedly hitting a female companion who criticised his performance with the national team.
Eyewitnesses claim the boozed up gaffer left a Bogota bar with a woman on Saturday night after reportedly downing half a bottle of liquor.
An argument is said to have broken out between the pair after she criticised his work as Colombia coach and he is alleged to have hit her at least four times.
A man is said to have stepped in, grabbed Gomez by the throat and challenged him to “hit a man”.
The scrapping pair later went back to the bar to collect her handbag.
A witness immediately phoned a radio station to report the incident and pretty soon there was a public phone-in to discuss Gomez’s future in the post. Obviously it didn’t end too well for Gomez.
In a statement, Gomez said: “An attitude like that is never acceptable and less so in someone like myself who has never been involved in anything like this in my 26-year career in professional football.”
Colombia were knocked out of the recent Copa America with a quarter-final defeat to Peru.
