Derby starlet Mason Bennett couldn’t make his debut on a school night
Derby County youngster Mason Bennett is set to make his debut aged 15 this weekend. He will become the Rams’ youngest ever player in the process, but his first appearance is a few days later than planned.
Manager Nigel Clough had to shelve plans to include him in the squad to face Reading on Tuesday evening because it was a school night.
Clough said: “Mason is someone we have to be patient with, but we can’t deny that we’re very excited about him.
“He’s a fantastic prospect and playing in the Championship would certainly not faze him.
“We wanted to take him with us to Reading, but we were mindful that he had to be in at school nice and early the following day!
“It won’t be a problem this weekend though, because he’s breaking up for half-term next week.”
The talented striker was born on the day that Gazza scored his famous goal against Scotland in Euro 96. Sorry to leave you feeling ancient on a Friday morning.
