The Dutch pitch invader who attempted to kick AZ Alkmaar goalie Esteban Alvarado – before finding himself on the receiving end of a couple of kicks from Alvarado – has been sent to prison for six months.

The incident made headlines not only for the nature of the attack, but also because Alvarado was sent-off for his retaliation. The red card was later rescinded.

The 19-year-old assailant, named only as Wesley van W. under Dutch privacy laws, was jailed for six months, although two of those months are suspended. He will also have to undergo treatment for an alcohol problem and report to police during all AZ, Ajax and Holland matches for the next two years.
