Transfer Deadline Day open thread
It’s here. Transfer deadline day. We’ll be updating this post throughout the day with all the latest transfer deals, rumours and humorous observations on Sky Sports News’ coverage.
Leave your own rumours and reactions in the comments section below.
6.56pm: In case you hadn’t guessed, there’s not a great deal happening. We’ll definitely be watching the match this evening and not Sky Sports News.
5.43pm: Adrian Mariappa has rejected a move to Wigan. He wants to go to Newcastle, but that will depend upon Watford accepting the Magpies’ offer.
5.02pm: Nikica Jelavic has left Goodison Park to “freshen up”. Goodness knows what David Moyes had got in store for him.
4.06pm: Liam Ridgewell has completed his £2.5m move from Birmingham to West Brom.
4.04pm: How many times can Djibril Cisse signing for QPR be ‘breaking news’? Surely at some point it becomes ‘news’.
3.41pm: Phil Brown to SSN’s Simon Thomas: “You’ve got to hit the ground running. You know that as much as anybody.” Did Si score on his Premier League debut?
2.29pm: Spurs have an £18m bid for Loic Remy rejected, according to Marseille’s chairman.
1.21pm: Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says his club have made a final offer for Watford defender Adrian Mariappa.
12.58pm: Bolton have made a £6m bid for Middlesbrough defender Rhys Williams. Boro have rejected the offer.
12.56pm: Here’s one we didn’t see coming: Louis Saha has moved from Everton to Spurs. ‘Arry must have done that one while the jury were having their lunch.
11.52am: Andrey Arshavin is rumoured to have started talks over a move to Anzhi Makhachkala.
11:50am: Djibril Cisse has passed his medical at QPR. If the paperwork is done in the next 10 minutes then he could feature for them tomorrow night.
11:25am: There’s a fire near Loftus Road, but will there be a fire-sale before the window closes. (See, we could write Sky Sports scripts. By the way, there really is a fire).
11:14: As expected (8:43am), Blackburn have doubled their Olssons by signing Marcus, twin brother of Martin.
10:28am: QPR reportedly want Fulham’s Bobby Zamora to form a new-look attack alongside Djibril Cisse.
10:23am: There have been rumblings of a loan signing arriving at Manchester City. The name that has now come up is Roma’s David Pizarro.
10:10am: Millwall have signed Wolves striker Andy Keogh for an undisclosed fee.
9:57am: Well done to Chelsea and Genk, who have completely missed the point of the transfer window. Winger Kevin De Bruyne has completed his move to Stamford Bridge… but he won’t join the Blues until June. The window will be back open by then!
9:51am: We find it hard to believe that Blackburn midfielder Keith Andrews is “attracting interest” from anyone. Surely Ipswich and Reading would struggle to muster anything beyond mild curiosity.
9:47am: West Brom agree a fee with Birmingham for defender Liam Ridgewell.
9:39am: Wigan are the latest club to have a bid for Watford defender Adrian Mariappa rejected. Newcastle and Arsenal are also thought to be in the hunt. Sean Dyche’s son is yet to stump up the cash.
9:29am: QPR defender Bradley Orr is undergoing a medical at Blackburn. Looks like Steve Kean could be busy today.
9:11am: Tottenham defender Vedrun Corluka is set to join Bayer Leverkusen on loan.
8:53am: Oooh, footage of Steve Kean pacing the office in his black overcoat. He means business.
8:43: Crafty Steve Kean is on the verge of bringing Martin Olsson’s twin brother Marcus to Blackburn. Next time Rovers are at Old Trafford he can have them running at the Da Silvas down either wing.
8:30am: Stoke boss Tony Pulis is going to sign “hundreds” of players, according to a tongue-in-cheek text he sent to a Sky Sports reporter.
8:22am: We were hoping to see a Manchester City player forego his massive wages in search of actually playing football today… we just didn’t think it would be Wayne Bridge.
8:19am: Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega could play against Spurs tonight… and then sign for them, according to the Mirror.
8:11am: Spending the day in court on transfer deadline day followed by a match this evening. Hasn’t Harry Redknapp been punished enough?
8:10am: Djibril Cisse to QPR is pretty much a done deal.
8:08am: Sky Sports reporter David Craig reckons Bolton striker Kevin Davies had a lucrative “LMS” offer on the table. We think he might mean MLS. He could also move to Sunderland, Mr Craig informs us.
8:05am: The big news so far is that Wayne Bridge is set for a medical at Sunderland, Manchester United youngster Ravel Morrison is set for West Ham and Nikica Jelavic is on the verge of completing his move from Rangers to Everton.
