Chelsea v Bolton
The thought that Roman Abramovich would support a three-year plan which endangered Chelsea’s place in the Champions League seems unlikely. As does the belief that Andre Villas-Boas’ job isnt under serious threat. It is, and anything other than a convincing win over second-bottom Bolton this weekend and we could very well be reading puns the likes of Andre Villas-Goes in next week’s tabloids. Wanderers are slightly better away from home and having beaten Liverpool and drawn with Arsenal in their last six games. The also under-pressure Owen Coyle will believe he can get something against an inconsistent Chelsea. The Londoners are big favourites at 3/10 but would anyone be surprised at a draw at 9/2, or 1-1 at 17/2 to be more exact?
Man City v Blackburn
City ran out comfortable winners in the end against Porto but the 4-0 score-line isn’t a true reflection of a game in which the visitors dominated for large spells. That said, the best teams win even when they dont perform at their best and with a 100 per cent home record in the league there seems little hope for Blackburn. They may be out of the relegation zone but one away win all season against this City team doesnt bode well. Aguero is starting to impress more and more and if he starts he’s the 3/1 favourite to score first. City are short at 2/11 but -2 goals at 6/5 and maybe even -3 goals at 13/5 are where you’ll make some money.
Arsenal v Spurs
Arsene Wenger is under all kinds of pressure at Arsenal, with even the loyal fans starting to grumble about a distinct lack of progress. This will be a seventh season without a trophy and that could spell the end of the Frenchman’s reign. Harry Redknapp hasn’t won a trophy in the three-and-a-half years he’s been at Tottenham and he looks all set to manage England at Euro 2012. It’s all about expectations. On their form this season, Spurs are a good bet for an away at 15/8 and wouldnt it be that little more stinging if Adebayor were to get them on the way with the first goal at 5/1?
