Nova 2010 FC outdo our beloved Madron with a 58-0 defeat
Remember last season we were rooting for self-styled ‘worst team in Britain’ Madron FC after they posted a 55-0 defeat? Well, someone has managed to go three better.
Nova 2010 FC lost 58-0 to opponents Wheel Power FC at the weekend. We don’t know whether to put it down to Cornwall/Devon rivalry, but Torquay-based Nova’s defeat ousts the Cornish maestros of Madron as the heaviest defeat recorded by a British team.
Wheel Power were 20-0 up at half-time in the Torbay Sunday League, but were not content to run down the clock in the second-half.
Brothers Robbie and Stuart Bowker scored 28 of the goals between them.
Stuart, aged 21, said: “At 50-0, they’d had enough but the referee told them they must carry on playing or they would risk being fined.”
But Nova said a depleted line-up was the reason for the humiliation.
Nova player Lewis Parker, aged 60 (hmmm, could be a clue to some of the problems), said: “A lot of the players didn’t turn up so we expected to lose but not by that much.”
