Top five Liverpool v Everton FA Cup moments
With Liverpool and Everton meeting at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final tomorrow, OTP looks at some of the greatest moments of previous Cup meetings between the Merseyside rivals.
1. The advert goal (2010)
The infamous extra-time winner from Dan Gosling was scored during a mistimed ITV advert break. Despite the controversy, the most shocking aspect of this video is that the words “Andy Van Der Meyde’s done the trick” are uttered by a commentator.
2. The 4-4 draw (1991)
This fifth round replay was – at that time – Kenny Dalglish’s last game in charge of Liverpool. The first meeting had ended 0-0. They then produced this 4-4 epic. The tie was eventually settled in a second replay, with Everton winning 1-0.
3. Terry McDermott’s chip (1977)
If tomorrow’s semi-final features a goal half as good as this effort from the 1977 semi-final, most neutrals will be happy. McDermott throws a cheeky Cruyff turn before chipping in. Sweet.
4. Stuart McCall’s volley (1989)
The pick of the goals in the 1989 FA Cup final was McCall’s volley. But it was Liverpool who lifted the trophy with a 3-2 win.
5. Ian Rush’s goal on the turn (1989)
Narrowly pipped by McCall as the goal of the game, you can bet Rush’s turn and curling shot was a lot more satisfying since he’s got a winners’ medal to show for it.
