Is Sheffield United striker Ched Evans the first player to be named in a PFA team of the year while in jail?
Certainly OTP can’t think of another example.
Evans was jailed last week after being convicted of raping a 19-year-old woman at a North Wales hotel.
The 23-year-old was sentenced to five years in prison, but yesterday he was named in the PFA League One team of the year. The voting takes place infamously early in the season, so long before Evans’ trial started, and is based on the opinions of fellow players.
So, can you think of any other players who’ve been named in a PFA team of the year while being detained at Her Majesty’s pleasure? And should the PFA have amended the team to avoid having a convicted rapist in their team of the year?
