Video: Bashed up Eredivisie trophy gets dropped again, lands on Jan Vertonghen’s foot

The poor old Eredivisie trophy doesn’t have much lack. Careless Dutch champions Ajax have dropped it in successive years while celebrating their league victory.

This year’s assault wasn’t quite as bad for the trophy as when Maarten Stekelenburg dropped it off a bus last season. In fact, it was Ajax star Jan Vertonghen who came off worse this time.

He dropped the trophy during a TV interview, but managed to break its fall with his foot.

Given that he’s poised to join Tottenham this summer, a broken trophy would be considerably more cost-effective for Frank De Boer’s team than any damage to Vertonghen.
