Video: (Unused) substitute goalkeeper stops certain goal (Huracan Las Heras v Club Atletico Union)
You often hear commentators saying: “They wouldn’t have kept that out of the net if they’d had two goalkeepers.”
But it turns out sometimes two goalkeepers would come in handy. Take this example from the Argentinian lower leagues, for instance.
Huracan Las Heras substitute goalkeeper Fernando Espinoza has left himself open to temptation by positioning himself behind his side’s goal. And when he spots the ball about to cross the line, he succumbs to that temptation and stops a certain goal for opponents Club Atletico Union.
Espinoza, who was shown a yellow card for his cynical act, blamed “instinct” for his unexpected save.
