Paolo Di Canio says Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli ‘deserves a lot of slaps’
Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio says compatriot Mario Balotelli wouldn’t be getting the arm round the shoulder treatment if the Manchester City star played for him. He’d be getting a few slaps round the face instead.
Di Canio played down Balotelli’s role in Italy’s impressive Euro 2012, saying veteran Antonio Cassano deserves most of the credit.
He told The Sun: “Balotelli is just selfish. He deserves a lot of slaps.
“Against Germany he did two good things but in the end I saw a player who was just waiting to celebrate.
“Balotelli does not play for the team, only for himself. He is an egotist, who thinks the world revolves around him.
“Guys like Balotelli deserve lots of slaps rather than pats on the shoulder. Antonio Cassano led the team to the final.”
It will be interesting to see if Roberto Mancini takes Di Canio’s feedback on board ahead of the new campaign.
