Young footballers often face a tricky decision: stay on the fringes at a big club or play every week at a lower level.

Scott Sinclair had tried both and had come to the conclusion that getting the games is definitely better for your development.

In fact, just last summer the pacy winger said: “Leaving Chelsea was the best decision I ever made as I’m finally playing every weekend, showing everyone what I can do.”

But after a severe bout of amnesia, Sinclair has opted to quit buoyant Swansea – playing some lovely football under Michael Laudrup – to join Manchester City in a £6.2m deal.

It’s probably safe to say he’s not going to be the first name on the teamsheet at the Etihad. In fact, he looks like he’ll slot rather nicely into the vacancy left by Adam Johnson. You know, Adam Johnson: the English winger who’s currently singing of the joys of moving to Sunderland to play regularly.
