Panama fans treat World Cup qualifying opponents Canada to impromptu late night firework display
Canada’s players were given a very warm welcome as they arrived in Panama for a World Cup qualifier.
The squad were no doubt hoping to settle in for an early night on Monday evening and relax ahead of today’s match. Instead they were treated to a street party outside their hotel. The fiesta got into full swing at around midnight, with music, honking car horns, lasers and fireworks.
Canada Soccer’s official Twitter account tweeted: “Hundreds of Panamanian fans gathered outside team hotel. Noise is deafening.”
Goalkeeping coach Paul Dolan has spent three decades experiencing such shenanigans throughout central America… and even he was impressed.
He said: “I have never seen anything this loud, disruptive & orchestrated in my 28 years in CONCACAF!”
