All is not well at the Bernabeu.

Manager Jose Mourinho’s name is booed before every home game after the club now face a battle for second place as they have lost ground on leader Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Club captain Iker Casillas has particularly suffered recently, relegated to the bench by the manager in favour of Antonio Adan.

On Sunday, when Casillas was called on after his replacement had been sent off after just seven minutes, he was offered the captain’s armband that Cristiano Ronaldo was wearing in his place.

Casillas, voted the best goalkeeper in the world at last night’s Ballon D’Or ceremony, refused the chance to wear the armband. Whilst Madrid papers saw this as the goalkeeper vowing to ‘earn’ back the honour, other media outlets saw it as a message that the great keeper is not happy at the club.

Still, take this from former SKy producer Sebastian Wallace, who may be going a little too far:

Iker Cassilas currently out of favour with Mourinho. Surely a better player than Brad Guzan and looks to be available. Thoughts #avfc fans?
