Bury release striker after just one day at the club
It isn’t often that a footballer actually loses money out of a spell at a club, but this is no normal transfer.
Jeanvion Yulu-Matondo was signed by Bury this week, which could be seen as quite a coup for the League One club given that he had been playing for Club Brugge, Roda JC, Levski Sofia and Westerlo in the highest tier in European leagues.
However, Matondo was released by manager Kevin Blackwell after just one day. Blackwell explained the situation:
“He was a free agent, was out of contract and had shown a little bit in training. I signed him with a view to looking at him in the reserves against Bolton. If she had shown something in that game, I might have been able to throw him on the bench, so he’s on the next flight to Brussels.”
Given that Matondo was presumably out-of-pocket for his spell in England, now probably isn’t the time to remind him that he scored against Juventus in the Champions League seven years ago.
