Irate Bulgarian coach steals referee’s cards and chucks them away
This has to be one of the most entertaining and unbelievable hissy-fits we have ever witnessed from a football manager. The match in question is a top-tier Bulgarian clash between CSKA Sofia and Botev Vratsa and the madness kicks off when a Botev player concedes a red card for a handball in his own area.
It’s fair to say that Botev coach Antoni Zdravkov isn’t best pleased with the decision. His fury jumps to apoplectic rage after Sofia score the resulting penalty and takes the football law into his own hands…almost literally.
Zdravkov somehow grabs the referee’s yellow and red cards, comically fails to rip them in two and throws them off the pitch. The tantrum continues down the sidelines as he bellows at a policeman and gives his best impression of an erupting Mount Vesuvius.
The officials and authorities seem oddly calm and bemused by the matter, with nut-case Zdravkov receiving no pressure to leave the pitch. Spare a thought for the referee – there can’t be too many more humiliating things than having your cards pinched. He’s sure to feel a little sheepish when he sits down to pen his match report.
