Spurs’ Gareth Bale’s and Arsenal’s Theo Walcott were the underwear bandits
Theo Walcott has revealed that he and Spurs star Gareth Bale were the self-styled “underwear bandits” during their Southampton days.
That was the name they gave to their bizarre antics, which involved putting pants on their heads and terrorising team-mates in the Saints’ academy by rampaging into their rooms and attacking them with pillows. Honestly, it’s worse than a scene out of The Wire in Southampton’s digs.
Walcott – for some reason best known to himself – told Sport magazine: “We’d call ourselves the underwear bandits.
“I have no idea where it came from, but if you were in your room watching a film and someone burst in with their boxers on their head, you knew you were in trouble.
“Sometimes it wasn’t even pillows – it was shoes and stuff like that. Luckily I was always quite quick, so I tended to get away with it.”
No doubt Bale is delighted that his former team-mate decided to share this with the world.
