Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie has turned down the opportunity to take the club’s number 9 shirt next season because he doesn’t want fans to be out of pocket.

RVP has worn 20 on his back this season and is reluctant to swap and disappoint supporters who have bought a number 20 shirt.

The former Arsenal star missed out on the number 9 when he moved to Old Trafford because incumbent Dimitar Berbatov have not completed his move to Fulham at that stage.

He told United Review “I think I will keep it [the No. 20 shirt].

“I have the option to take the No. 9 but I don’t think I will do that. I will stick with what is right and what feels good.

“I do not want to be harsh on the fans who have the number 20 on their kit.

“I do not want them to have to buy a new shirt. [The number 20] it has been a good number for me and I will stick with it.”

And it’s allowed United fans to have lots of fun around the 20th title won by number 20 theme.
