With news that Alex Ferguson was leaving Manchester United, it was only a matter of time before businesses started to think about marketing the huge sporting event.

The first to do so was Nandos, who promised that their ‘restaurants’ would stay open for five extra minutes to commemorate the passing of Fergie time, which gained them a huge amount of retweets on Twitter.

Premier Inn then rather copied their lead by allowing guests in their Manchester hotels to check out 26 minutes later this morning, one for each year of Fergie’s reign.

Neither necessarily exactly captured the spirit of Fergie’s glorious tenure at Old Trafford but hey, what’s a nifty piece of advertising between friends.
