Manchester United seem to have suggested that midfielder Michael Carrick voted for himself in the Players’ Player of the Year award.

A report on the club’s official website says that Carrick was the “unanimous” choice after a vote by members of the squad. If nobody else received any votes, that means Carrick must have picked himself as the most worthy winner of the award.

The report reads: “Every member of the first team squad was asked to vote for their star man of the campaign and they unanimously voted Carrick as their Player of the Year.”

The England international was more humble in receiving the award than he was during the voting process.

He said: “I work with the lads every day and train every day. We’ve got an unbelievable team spirit and players from all over the world come and fit in and make a real effort to fit in. For them to give me the vote for this means an awful lot. It really is special for me.”

We suppose politicians do it, so there’s no reason Carrick shouldn’t. As long as he’s not fiddling his expenses, too.
