Mark Hughes appointed as Stoke City manager
Stoke fans hoping that the departure of former manager Tony Pulis might lead to a more exciting brand of football being played at the Britannia Stadium have been hit by the news that Mark Hughes has been appointed as their new boss.
Hughes will be officially unveiled as the new Potters manager at 11am this morning.
Chairman Peter Coates told local newspaper The Sentinel: “We had lots of inquiries about the job, including some very interesting names, but we decided Mark Hughes was a fit for us.
“His record speaks for itself. He has done excellently by anyone’s standards. He’s also a thoughtful, intelligent man with an intense desire to win.”
Some Stoke supporters seem to disagree. One fan has already taken to driving a ‘Hughes Out’ billboard around the city.
The fan, named only as Carl, said: “It is not just me, it is the thoughts of 90% of Stoke fans. Security made me move on from the Britannia so I drove around.
“I parked on motorway bridges and people were beeping their support at me and taking photos.
“He is not a long-term appointment, look at his track record, but it looks as though he is going to be appointed anyway.”
OTP would like to be the first to offer Sparky a handshake of congratulations.
