Olivier Giroud says Arsenal need two or three new players
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud says the club needs to sign two or three new players this summer in order to show the required level of ambition.
The Frenchman says the Gunners need to open the chequebook to show the current squad and the fans that they mean business. And he’s quite happy for the new arrivals to put his own place in the team under threat.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror, he said: “I think we need maybe two or three more players. Yes, that’s what we need. To show ambition.
“The club has to show the fans that we want it. Me and my team mates, we need it as well. It’s all about the team. It will be a really positive thing if we have a new striker.”
He clearly threw his weight behind the club’s attempts to sign Luis Suarez, though he stopped short of naming the Liverpool forward.
He continued: “We are waiting for one but we don’t know. I think it will be good for the team and for me as well to have another striker, to have more competition between us.
“But I think I could play with him or without him. So I will be able to be in the first XI this season. I really want to be in the first XI this season but we will see.”
Giroud, aged 26, has looked in good nick so far this season after an underwhelming debut season in the Premier League last term.
Gooners will be hoping he can continue his goalscoring run into the new campaign.
