Michael Essien and Jose Mourinho celebrated Real Madrid goal by joking about Chelsea pre-season
Jose Mourino and Michael Essien joked about reporting for Chelsea pre-season training together even as the midfielder celebrated scoring in Real Madrid’s final game of last season.
Already well aware that he was heading for Stamford Bridge before the new season, then Real Madrid boss Mourinho whispered to Essien that he would see him on July 8 for Chelsea’s first session.
Writing in his blog on Chelsea’s website, Essien revealed: “Jose is also one of the funniest men you will ever come across.
“For example when I scored my last goal for Real Madrid on the last day of the season, I ran over to celebrate with him and was expecting him to congratulate me when I hugged him.
“Instead he leaned over and said: ‘See you at pre-season training on July 8′. I found that so funny.
“I was expecting a pat on the back and thinking about my summer holidays and he surprised me with pre-season – that’s Jose for you.”
The moment Essien is talking about is clearly visible in the video above.
Essien also used his column to explain why he refers to Mourinho as daddy.
He wrote: “A lot of people have been asking why I sometimes call him ‘daddy’. It’s because he shaped my future and understands who I am, like any good father.
“Even when he was not at Chelsea, he will always wish me luck before, during and after the season. I could always pick up the phone and speak to him about anything and he will offer advice.
“He has never been disloyal to me and I like him and admire him because of that.”
