Man City, Spurs and Chelsea target transfer-listed Anzhi star Willian
Manchester City are at the front of a queue of Premier League clubs hoping to take advantage of the turmoil at Russian club Anzhi by signing midfielder Willian.
All of big-spending Anzhi’s players have been transfer-listed as part of cost-cutting measures.
ESPN Brazil claims City have already made a £34m bid for the 24-year-old. Reports in the Mirror suggest that Tottenham and Chelsea are considering bids of their own for the Brazil international.
City’s bid was apparently lodged before the current fire-sale started, so they might find themselves in the odd position of returning to Anzhi with a lower bid.
The ex-Shakhtar Donetsk winger only joined Anzhi in January, commanding a fee of £30m on that occasion.
Willian is known to be keen on a move to the Premier League.
At the time of his previous transfer, he said: “I had offers from big English clubs and from other places, but Shakhtar never accepted them.
“I wanted very badly to go to England, but I have no regrets and couldn’t wait any longer to leave Shakhtar – they used to tell me one thing and then act otherwise.
“Anzhi were the only ones who agreed to play for my release clause. I have enormous affection and respect for this club, but everybody knows that my dreams and desires haven’t changed.”
