Arsenal bid for Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye
Newcastle have rejected a £10m bid from Arsenal Yohan Cabaye, Sky Sports News is reporting.
The reports suggest that the Gunners have made an official approach for the France international, despite the fact that the 27-year-old is due to play for the Magpies against Manchester City in just a few hours.
Another peculiar aspect is that, for all Arsenal’s lack of spending and obvious flaws, central midfield is not be the first position you would expect Arsene Wenger to be strengthening as a knee-jerk reaction to Saturday’s defeat to Aston Villa.
Cabaye has been one of Newcastle’s top performers since joining from Lille in 2011.
He has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with Manchester United reportedly taking an interest in him. But Arsenal’s bid is believed to be the first official approach for the £20m-rated midfielder.
The reaction of Arsenal fans on Twitter seems to veer between confusion that Wenger has moved for a central midfielder and glee that the club has made a transfer bid of any description.
