Newcastle to challenge Spurs for Tom Ince if Yohan Cabaye goes to Arsenal
Newcastle hope to spend the proceeds of Yohan Cabaye’s transfer on Blackpool winger Tom Ince, the Daily Mirror reports.
If their French midfielder completes a move to Arsenal or PSG, the Magpies’ hierarchy plan to invest some of the money in the pacy England Under-21 star.
However, they will face strong competition from Spurs for Ince’s signature. Andre Villas Boas’ side are likely to have plenty of money in the coffers from the sale of Gareth Bale, even if they do bring in both Willian and Roma winger Erik Lamela, as expected.
The Toon are believed to be most desperate to capture Ince after an underwhelming transfer window. While Spurs have a host of new stars, Newcastle have only signed QPR striker Loic Remy on loan so far.
That makes the Tyneside club more willing to meet Blackpool’s £8m valuation of Ince. Daniel Levy is only likely to move if there is some wriggle-room on the fee.
Meanwhile, Ince’s current manager, dad Paul, has suggested that he would rather his son move to a club where he will play regularly. With Spurs likely to have the aforementioned Lamela, Nacer Chadli and Aaron Lennon competing for places on the wing this season, Ince Snr might favour Newcastle.
