Spurs interested in Man Utd striker Javier Hernandez
Spurs are hoping to sign Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez but have been told he will cost £15m – double what they were hoping to pay.
Andre Villas Boas is keen to secure a fox-in-the-box poacher to support recent signing Roberto Soldado, which would allow him to sell England striker Jermain Defoe before the transfer window shuts.
Spurs had planned on bidding no more than £8m for the 25-year-old, but United value him at double that.
The Mexican striker enjoyed an excellent debut season in English football after joining from Guadalajara in 2010, being named as the fans’ player of the year. But he has failed to hold down a regular first-team spot since then, particularly after the arrival of Robin Van Persie.
He maintains an excellent goalscoring record when he is involved, but that is not very often at the moment.
