Chelsea lost last night’s Uefa Super Cup to Bayern Munich in just about the most sickening circumstances.
Fernando Torres gave the Blues an early lead, which was cancelled out by Franck Ribery.
Ramires was sent off on 85 minutes, leaving Jose Mourinho’s side heading into extra-time with 10 men.
They had been expected to sit back and take the match to penalties, but Eden Hazard gave them a surprise 2-1 lead.
The Blues defended resolutely for the rest of extra time, only for Javi Martinez to equalise with the last kick of the game.
That took the match to penalties, where Romelu Lukaku became the fall guy. Both teams had a 100 per cent record until the young Belgian’s unconvincing spot-kick was saved by Manuel Neuer.
