Arsenal planning to swoop Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan and Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender
He used to be accused of only buying French players, but now Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is considering two more additions to his growing collection of Germans.
According to the Daily Mirror, Wenger is plotting moves for midfielders Ilkay Gundogan, of Borussia Dortmund, and Lars Bender, of Bayer Leverkusen.
The Gunners manager is keen to add a holding midfielder to his squad during the next transfer window, so Gundogan and Bender will be scouted regularly between now and then.
They’ve both been earmarked as potential anchors for Wenger’s midfield.
If either of the pair sign for Arsenal, they will join compatriots Lukas Podolski, Per Mertesacker, Serge Gnabry, Gedion Zelalem, Thomas Eisfeld and recent record signing Mesut Ozil.
Gundogan, aged 22, or Bender, aged 24, are not likely to be alone in moving to north London in January. Wenger is also planning to spend big on a new striker.
