Sunderland lose behind-close-doors friendly to their Under-21 side
Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio is said to be furious with his players after they lost a behind-closed-doors friendly to the club’s Under-21 side.
The Italian boss organised a private practice match against the development squad to keep up the first-team’s fitness levels during the international break. But he hadn’t counted on the youngsters emerging from the game as 3-1 winners.
The Daily Mirror reports that Di Canio was so incensed by the result that he conducted a detailed review of the game with his players, as if it had been a competitive match.
He also told his players that they weren’t to mention that the match had even taken place, so he will be further angered that the news is now public knowledge.
The Black Cats lost their last Premier League game 1-3 at Crystal Palace.
