Video: Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris determined to skipper France to the World Cup through play-offs
Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is determined to captain the France national team to next summer’s World Cup – but realises that will probably mean qualifying through the play-offs.
Both Lloris and manager Didier Deschamps appear resigned to finishing behind leaders Spain in Group I. The World Cup holders are three points clear with two games to play.
Ahead of tonight’s game against Belarus, Lloris said the out-of-sorts French squad was “hanging in there”.
He said: “I am aware that the results in 2013 have not been good. But, as I’ve said we mustn’t lose sight of our goal. We are all working together with the aim of reaching the World Cup.
“It’s not easy every day but we are hanging in there. If we have to get there through the play-offs so be it.”
