Liverpool’s PR team were supposed to be getting a better handle on things this season after some disastrous work by the communications department in recent years.
So, we’re not quite sure how this post by the club’s official USA Twitter account fits into that.
You’ve heard of phoenix from the flames, but this is more like Liver bird from the smoking Twin Towers.
Presumably buoyed by an excellent start to the season on the pitch, the Reds now appear to be confident of fighting of terrorist foes on behalf of world superpowers.
Hence the slogan: “You’ll Never Walk Alone America.”
Just embarrassing and another example of the Reds’ media team going out of their way to make a mess of things.
The actual tweet – “The thoughts of everyone at Liverpool Football Club are with those affected by the events of 9/11. YNWA.” – is fine. There’s nothing wrong with expressing those sentiments.
But who decided that this needed to be followed up with the ridiculous artwork and slogan?
UPDATE: Liverpool have now deleted the tweet. More information here.
