Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen could make his return from injury in tomorrow’s game against Sunderland, according to Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners boss says the defender is more likely to feature in midweek, but could still be included in the squad to face the Black Cats.
He said: “Vermaelen is back in full training. He is very close to being available and he could be in the squad on Saturday.
“It is more likely to be Wednesday, but there is a possibility he might still travel on Friday to Sunderland.”
The Belgian centre-back has been out since June with a back injury sustained on international duty.
Two players who won’t face Paolo Di Canio’s side are Tomas Rosicky and Yaya Sanogo.
Wenger confirmed that Rosicky is still out with a hamstring injury.
On Sanogo, he said: “Sanogo has a back problem. He came back from the first game of the France Under-21s with it. He is certainly out for Saturday.”
