Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine ‘very likely’ to go to jail
A judge has told Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine that he is “very likely” to be jailed after being found guilty of two separate assaults.
The BBC reports that the Owls star hit Daniel Beresford in the Paris Bar in February 2012, and attacked Reece Hall in the Viper Rooms a month later.
The jury at Leeds Crown Court convicted him of causing Mr Beresford actual bodily harm and causing Mr Hall grievous bodily harm.
Madine has been granted bail but Judge Rodney Jameson QC said: “You must understand that an immediate custodial sentence is very likely.”
The 23-year-old knocked Mr Beresford unconscious and broke his nose. The Wednesday fan, who said Madine had been one of his favourite players, said the footballer had been staring at him. When he asked why, the player assaulted him.
Mr Hall suffered a broken jaw and a fractured cheek in a separate attack. Madine asked who he supported. When he replied “United”, Madine punched him in the eye.
The former Carlisle striker had a previous conviction for assault after he knocked a man out in February 2010.
