Arsenal ready to pay £11m for Liverpool target Kyriakos Papadopoulos
Arsenal are preparing an £11m bid to beat Premier League rivals Liverpool to the signing of Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
It’s not clear whether Brendan Rodgers side will launch a bid of their own. The Reds were heavily linked with the Greece international but, having signed PSG’s Mamdou Sakho and Sporting Lisbon’s Tiago Ilori, Rodgers may decide that he now has sufficient strength-in-depth at centre-back.
Papadopoulos was tipped to move in the summer, but a serious knee injury seemingly convinced his many suitors to bide their time.
A host of other top European clubs are likely to be interested in signing the 21-year-old but Arsenal are at the front of the pack, the Daily Express reports.
Arsene Wenger is thought to be prepared to meet Schalke’s £11m asking price.
