Spurs linked with fresh move for Chelsea’s Juan Mata
Tottenham hope to bring Chelsea star Juan Mata to White Hart Lane in January, according to reports in the Daily Express.
The Blues playmaker is by no means a guaranteed starter under Jose Mourinho, and Andre Villas Boas is reportedly hoping to capitalise on that by offering the Spaniard an exit route when the transfer window reopens.
Italian sides Juventus and Napoli are said to pose the biggest threat to Spurs’ plans.
The 25-year-old – player of the year two years running at Stamford Bridge – insists he is committed to fighting for his place in Mourinho’s side. But he might reassess the situation if his place in Spain’s World Cup squad is in jeopardy come January.
Even with the impressive start to Christian Eriksen’s Spurs career, Villas Boas would love to have Mata at his disposal, too.
But the 25-year-old’s arrival might spell the end of Lewis Holtby’s stint in north London.
