Arsenal prepare £20m January bid for Lars Bender
Arsenal are plotting a second bid for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender.
Arsene Wenger had an £18.5m offer turned down over the summer, but has not given up on landing his man.
He will return with an improved £20m bid for the Germany international when the transfer window reopens, according to the Daily Star Sunday.
Bender, aged 24, is seen as the perfect replacement for the ageing Mikel Arteta. Wenger is set to continue his policy of buying German as he continues to strengthen his squad.
The Bundesliga side are under no obligation to sell their star man, who is also a target for Manchester United.
He has played six times in the league this season, scoring the goal above against Mainz.
