Chelsea skipper John Terry set for new contract
Jose Mourinho has given the nod for John Terry to be offered a new deal at Chelsea.
The Blues boss has been convinced that his skipper has still got what it takes to perform at the top level based on his performances so far this season.
Terry, aged 33, was being linked with a move abroad when his current deal expires at the end of the current season. He would have been free to start talking to clubs in January, but Mourinho told him this week that a new contract would be forthcoming.
Staying at Stamford Bridge is one-club man Terry’s preference ahead of a lucrative move to the Middle East or USA.
Talks will open soon if Terry continues his early season form. Sorting out an extension in the next few weeks would prevent a repeat of the farcical situation that surrounded Frank Lampard’s new contract last season.
