Video: Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler apologises for calling Chelsea’s Fernando Torres and Spurs’ Jan Vertonghen ‘girls’
Robbie Fowler has been forced to apologise on live TV after comparing Chelsea striker Fernando Torres and Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen to “a pair of girls”.
The Liverpool legend was working as a pundit on the BBC’s Final Score programme.
In his analysis of the on-going squabbles between the two players, Fowler said: “They were pulling at each other like a pair of girls.”
Someone talking in Fowler’s ear clearly told him that he needed to apologise for what he had said.
Moments later he launched into a slightly garbled apology about him being a fan of women’s football.
He summed up by saying: ‘I’m very sorry. I didn’t mean to offend anyone.’
