David Moyes admits Man Utd could lose Wayne Rooney if they don’t qualify for the Champions League
Manchester United manager David Moyes has expressed fears that the club could lose Wayne Rooney if they miss out on Champions League qualification.
The champions are by no means certain to finish in the top four after an underwhelming start to the season.
And Moyes has indicated there are no guarantees that they would be able to keep their star striker if they failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Speakings on Friday, Moyes said: “We would have to wait and see what happened in that situation.”
But he also suggested that he believes Rooney is happy at Old Trafford at the moment.
He said: “I think if you look at his performances he’s certainly playing at his best.”
Rooney enters the final year of his £250,000-a-week deal in the summer. If he refuses to sign a new contract at the end of the current season, United might be forced to cash-in rather than risk losing him for nothing the following year.
