Bacary Sagna has explained that his aim to win trophies and lift the Premier League title was the reason for him leaving Arsenal for Manchester City.

Sagna swapped the Emirates for the Eithad this summer becoming the fifth player to move between the clubs in recent years after Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy, Emmanuel Adebayor and Samir Nasri all made the switch in a bid to win trophies – as well as an increase in wages.

The right-back says seeing City win the Premier League title last season convinced him to make the move. “Players are here to work and to win trophies,” Sagna said.

“I was watching them (City) celebrating last season and I wanted to celebrate at the same time and win trophies, and the best way to do that is to work, to wake up every day and give the maximum.”

Sagna could face his former side when the teams meet on Sunday in the Community Shield.
