Video: Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirms interest in West Ham’s Winston Reid
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he wants to sign West Ham centre-back Winston Reid.
The Gunners have been linked with the Hammers star for several months, but today is the first time that Wenger has publicly acknowledged he wants to sign the 26-year-old.
Asked if the New Zealand international was a target, he told his press conference ahead of this weekend’s game against Manchester City: ” Of course. We are out in the market and we are working very hard everyday.
“All our scouts and our people are working very hard to find a defender.”
Reid is widely expected to leave West Ham in the near future.
He is out of contract at the end of the season. Manager Sam Allardyce went public to reveal that Reid had rejected several contract offers from the club and to air his suspicions that Reid had already agreed a move elsewhere.
The Hammers boss has also indicated that he does not intend to cash-in by selling Reid in the current transfer window rather than losing him on a free transfer next summer. But it remains to be seen if the club’s board shares that view if Arsenal decide to lodge a bid before the end of the month.
