Spurs’ Aaron Lennon insists he is ‘buzzing’ to be at Everton… despite the photos
On-loan Everton winger Aaron Lennon insists his now infamous unveiling photos are not indicative of his mood.
The pictures went viral, with most people jumping to the assumption that the Tottenham Hotspur man was not particularly pleased with his loan switch Goodison Park.
But the former England international, aged 27, insists that is not the case and that he is delighted to be playing regular first-team football again after falling out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane.
He claims that he receives regular complaints about his miserable photo face from his mother, new club or no new club.
Lennon told the Liverpool Echo: “I’ve been getting a lot of stick about the photos to be fair.
“It’s all good banter though, on Twitter, from the lads here and from my mates as well.
“I’m not the best with photos at any time to be honest – I never smile and my mum tells me that all the time.
“It was nothing really. The photos might not have looked that way but I’m buzzing to be at Everton.
“A few clubs came in but as soon as I heard Everton were in that was my only choice: as soon as the call came I couldn’t wait to get up the motorway.
“The manager (Roberto Martinez) and the staff here have been brilliant in helping me settle in straight away. They’ve made it easy to settle in so far.
“My immediate aim is to help Everton as much as I can. I don’t think it’s about proving myself again but I’ve not played much football this season so sometimes you do drop a level and people start forgetting about you.”
Lennon completed his loan move to the Toffees on transfer deadline day after nine-and-a-half years with Spurs.
The former Leeds United youngster made his first appearance for Everton as a second-half substitute in Saturday evening’s 0-0 draw rivals Liverpool in the Merseyside debut.
He is in line to play his second game for Roberto Martinez’s side against Chelsea this evening.
