Raphael Varane is Chelsea’s no.1 transfer target
Chelsea have made Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane their top target for the summer transfer window, according to the Daily Mirror.
The France international, aged 21, worked under Blues boss Jose Mourinho during his time in charge at the Bernabeu. Indeed, Varane became a first-team regular with the Special One at the helm.
He currently finds himself back behind Pepe and Sergio Ramos in Carlo Ancelotti’s pecking order.
Chelsea will hope to use that to their advantage as the reportedly plot a bid for the defender. The article suggests that Real would demand a fee of more than £30m for Varane, who is rated as one of the best young centre-halves in Europe.
The report also claims that the prospective move will raise serious doubts over Gary Cahill’s future at Stamford Bridge. Cahill has already found his place in the team under pressure from Kurt Zouma this season, and could now face two talented young Frenchmen vying for his place in the side.
