Santi Cazorla admits uncertainty over Arsenal future
Arsenal star Santi Cazorla has admitted that he is uncertain how much longer he will be at the club.
The 30-year-old has been consistently linked with a move to Atletico Madrid in recent months, and those rumours were put to Cazorla yesterday.
Asked if he will be joining Atletico, he told Spanish newspaper El Mundo: “Let’s see, what I’ve heard, like everyone, and questions go around. To date I have not heard from anyone, they are just rumours.
“And to tell you the truth, I do not worry much. I worry about Arsenal, where I’m fine. The future, we’ll see.”
If they sounded a bit non-committal, that sense only increased as the interview continued.
Cazorla said: “In principle, I have another year and another optional [left on my contract]. While I feel valued…”
When it was pointed out that sounded like a warning to the Gunners and manager Arsene Wenger, Cazorla denied that but reiterated that his future is up in the air.
He said: “No, no. I say that I am very comfortable as long as the club values me as they have so far. However, I insist that in football you never know what will happen in the future.”
The Spain international joined the Gunners from Malaga in August 2012. While the arrivals of the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez had appeared to threaten his place in the side, Cazorla has played some of the best football of his Arsenal career to date playing in a deeper midfield role in recent months.
