Man City set to hold fire on Manuel Pellegrini sacking… for now
Manchester City are set to hold fire on sacking under fire Manuel Pellegrini with the club prepared to give him until the end of the season to earn a reprieve, according to the Star.
Billionaire owner Sheikh Mansour and chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak are set to carry out an investigation into how the team’s season has failed so badly after the side topped the table at the start of the year before falling to nine points behind Chelsea this weekend.
Club bosses will wait until next month before getting together to discuss the outcome of what is turning into a nightmare season.
City’s title defence has once again come up woefully short and they now face a desperate battle to secure a top four finish and place in next season’s Champions League.
More misery could be piled on this weekend when they face local rivals Manchester United, who are now one point above them and will be desperate to get their first win over City since 2012.
Pellegrini’s job still hangs by a thread but a strong end to the season may just convince the club to persevere with him.
