Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby and Serge Gnabry to play for Arsenal U21 tonight
Arsenal first-teamers Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby and Serge Gnabry have all been named in the starting lineup for tonight’s under-21 game against Reading at the Emirates.
Wilshere will skipper the side as he continues his recovery from the ankle injury that has prevented him from featuring for Arsene Wenger’s side since November.
The England international underwent surgery on ligament damaged sustained in a challenge with Manchester United’s Paddy McNair. He was closing in on a return to action in February before needing another minor operation to alleviate some discomfort being caused by a screw in his ankle.
He now has a behind-closed-doors friendly against Brentford and an under-21 game against Stoke City under his belt, and will continue to improve his match fitness against the Royals in this evening’s game.
Injury-prone Diaby has appeared in the same fixtures and will start alongside Wilshere in midfield.
Gnabry, who has been out with a long-term knee injury, also featured against the Potters and will play tonight.
January signing Krystian Bielik has also been named in the team.
