Man Utd with £100m to splash out on ex-Spurs star Gareth Bale
Manchester United will have £100m available to spend on former Tottenham star Gareth Bale if he becomes available at Real Madrid in the summer, according to the Telegraph.
The Red Devils’ finances will be boosted by the return to Champions League football with them set to have an extra £100m – roughly the same figure they believe would be enough to capture the Welshman.
United and Chelsea have been linked with making moves for the 25-year-old who has suffered a difficult second season at the club after coming under fire from fans and the press in Spain for some underwhelming displays.
Bale had seemingly answered his critics recently when he scored two goals as Real Madrid beat Levante 2-0 – ending a nine game drought without finding the back of the net.
But his showing against Barcelona subsequently led to calls from fans for him to be dropped with him abused outside the club’s training ground.
Real have always insisted Bale is going nowhere but the Telegraph claim the player still has an uncertain future at the club and if they do indicate they are ready to part company then United will be ready in waiting.
The ex-Spurs man picked up a calf injury which had threatened to rule him out of the rest of the season to compound his misery.
But he has since recovered well and now looks set to play in the club’s crucial remaining games of the campaign.
