South American hotshot snubs new contract amid Chelsea and Man City interest
Inter Milan star Mauro Icardi has snubbed the Serie A club’s latest contract offer amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester City, according to Sky Sport Italia.
The Argentinian striker was thought to be on course to extend his stay at San Siro by an extra season to June 2019 with a £2.5m-a-year reportedly on offer.
But despite the lucrative offer on the table for the player, he is playing hardball as he weighs up his options – with it appearing likely that he will leave the Italian club.
The 22-year-old’s deal does not expire until 2018 but with him proving his worth this season by scoring 21 goals in all competitions he is hot property.
Icardi is now demanding in excess of £3m a year to remain at Inter, who are unable to offer him what he wants.
City and Chelsea are watching events closely with both able to offer him the money he demands.
